Jasper Conservation Connection and the Jasper County Conservation Board will be partnering together to host the 10th annual Hook, Line and Sinker family fishing derby starting at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 3 at Mariposa County Park. The fishing derby will be free for all ages. This will be a last chance to fish the lake at Mariposa for a while before it is drained and the large lake restoration project starts this fall. The fish are biting and it is a great time to visit Mariposa.
This year’s derby will include educational presentations about fish ID, lure making, cleaning and cooking fish, and basic line set up, as well as a fun session where participants will make aluminum foil boats. After a provided lunch, participants will have the afternoon to go fishing and door prizes will be given out. The first 100 kids to register will receive a free shirt.
To register, visit the Jasper County Conservation website at jaspercountyconservation.com to print off a registration form. Forms must be returned by May 26 to the conservation office to ensure participants are served a meal the day of the derby. If you have any questions, please call the conservation office at 641-792-9780 or stop by the Jasper County Armory/Annex Building at 1030 W. Second St. S. in Newton.
