Mustangs qualify 16 events for state track meet

It’s been a banner year for Mustang track athletes, winning meets, running in the 4x100 at the Drake Relays and now qualifying 16 events for the State Track Meet, which will be held Thursday through Saturday at Drake University in Des Moines. Capturing the district title were the girls May 8 at Eddyville with 111 points. Mustang boys placed third in tough competition, also at Eddyville, just two points behind Albia. District champ was Mid-Prairie. Classes 2A and 3A are both in the afternoon session on Thursday and Friday with field events beginning at 2 p.m. and running events at 2:40 p.m. both days. Saturday will showcase the finals in all classes. Mustang girls’ events include 100-meter, 200-meter, 400-meter hurdles, shuttle hurdle relay, 4x400 relay, 4x800 relay, sprint medley relay, shot put, distance medley relay. Mustang boys’ events include 100-meter, 200-meter, 1600-meter run, 3200-meter run, 100-meter hurdles, 4x200 relay, shot put. Girls’ coaches are Bridget Martin, Lindsey Cunningham and Briley McWilliams. Boys’ coaches are Collin Harrison and Joel Grier.
