Karen Johnson, 77, of Monroe, died Wednesday, July 5, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. A funeral service was Saturday, July 8 at the Monroe Presbyterian Church. The daughter of Jennings Reuben and Olive (Schakel) Palmquist, Karen was born Aug. 26, 1939, in Des Moines. Karen worked at several area nursing homes as an activities director. She was united in marriage to Ronald Dale Kingery in 1956. After his passing, she met and was married to Delmar Johnson in 2004. Karen was a member of the Monroe Presbyterian Church, served as past president of the Monroe American Legion Auxiliary and was a former member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. She enjoyed doing crafts, coffee time with the girls and camping, especially at the State Fair.
Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Delmar; her children, Debra Nichols, Blake (Tamyie) Kingery, Cheryl (Eric) Giers; step-children, Delmar (Linda) Johnson, Jr., Ronald Dean (Becky) Johnson, Marla Jo (Marla Rigby) Johnson and Bradley L. Johnson and Lori Ann (Bob) Pease; 23 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Greta (Don) Van Heimert. Preceding her in death were her parents; her first husband, Ronald in 2003; a son, Randy Kingery; a sister, Evelyn; and a brother, Roger.
