For the 32nd straight year, the city of Monroe will host the Monroe Annual Micro Marathon.
The event has a new organizer this year after Bridget Martin handed the reigns over to Phyllis Peter. Martin has been in charge of the event for the past five seasons.
Peter will now be in charge of the MAMM race and no longer be in control of the annual Prairie City Fun Run.
“Bridget asked me if I wanted to take it over, and it’s better for my personal schedule,” Peter said.
The event is both a 5K and 10K race that begins at 8 a.m. on Aug. 5.
The 5K is a walk or run, and both races begin at Red Rock Park on the corner of Business 163 and Marion. The races are part of the Monroe Old Settlers celebration.
The cost of the event is $20 if pre-registered by Aug. 3. They will take walk ups the day of the race for $25.
The entry fee includes a T-shirt.
PCM students can register for the event for free, and they can purchase a T-shirt for $7. Students under the age of 18 need a signed waiver from their parents.
Medals are given out to first-, second- and third-place finishers in each male and female age division.
The age divisions are 14 and under, 15-24, 25-34, 35-44, 45-54 and 55 and up.
