Seven Mustangs earn all-HOIC softball recognition

PCM was one of the best teams in the Heart of Iowa Conference this past season.

For the Mustang efforts, seven players earned all-HOIC softball honors.

Seniors Jayci Vos, Kayla Jennings and Abby Waddell earned first-team recognition, while seniors Katie Vande Wall and Courtney Bridges were second-team picks. Earning honorable mention recognition were senior Brooke Nicholson and junior Madison Foster.

Jennings was a first-team pitcher who will play with Vos at DMACC next season.

Jennings was 9-3 in the league this season. Her ERA of 1.30 ranked second in the HOIC, and she struck out a league-high 85 batters in 81 innings.

Overall, she was 13-9 with an ERA of 1.87. She struck out 139 batters in 142 1/3 innings pitched.

At the plate, Jennings hit .416. She scored 15 runs and hit two home runs with 22 RBIs. The average improved to .426 during conference play, and she drove in 11 and drew five walks.

Vos was a first-team infielder.

The Mustang senior led the team with a batting average of .472. She scored 39 runs, stole 18 bases and had 18 RBIs. Her on base percentage was .521.

In conference play, Vos batted .483 with a conference-high 21 runs, nine RBIs and seven stole bases. She got on base more than 53 percent of the time.

The final first-team selection for the Mustangs was Waddell, who landed on the team as a utility player.

Waddell batted .355 overall with 21 runs, 19 RBIs and seven walks. In conference play, the average rose to .429. She also scored 11 runs, hit two home runs and collected 15 RBIs.

Bridges was a second-team selection as a catcher. She threw out three runners trying to steal. She also batted .315 with five RBIs and four walks. Overall, she hit .307 with 10 RBIs.

Vande Wall made the second team as an infielder. She batted .326 with 10 runs, nine RBIs, two home runs and four walks in the HOIC. Overall, she batted .312 with 17 runs, 17 RBIs, five walks and four home runs.

Foster earned all-conference recognition for the first time in her career after batting .373 in HOIC play with 13 runs and 12 RBIs. Overall, Foster hit . 341 with 23 runs and 17 RBIs.

Nicholson finished with a .314 batting average on the season. She had 12 RBIs and scored 19 runs. The average was . 288 in conference play with 10 runs and seven RBIs.
