Dean C. Chandler, 95, of Bettendorf, died Wednesday, June 21, 2017, at Unity Point Trinity Medical Center in Bettendorf. A memorial service celebrating his life will be from 1 p.m. until time of services at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 6 at the Fountains Senior Living in Bettendorf. A private inurnment will be at the National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. Memorials may be made to the Fish & Wildlife Trust Fund via the Iowa DNR and by visiting iowadnr.gov. Dean Carlos Chandler was born Nov. 8, 1921, in New Virginia, a son of Harold and Iloe (Nicoson) Chandler. He was united in marriage to Virginia Riley June 16, 1944. She survives him.
Prior to his retirement, Dean had worked as an insurance adjuster and claims manager for Fireman’s Fund Insurance. Following his retirement, Dean worked at the Upper Mississippi Valley Mercantile Co., Davenport. Dean was a member of the Fraternal Order of Mason for 71 years. His home lodge was Hamilton Masonic Lodge #664, Bettendorf.
Survivors include his wife of more than 73 years, Virginia; daughter, Susan (Ken) Carpenter of Moline; sons, Michael (Ellen) Chandler of Garrison, N.Y., and David (Susan Gosney) Chandler of Dundas, Ontario, Canada; grandchildren, Krista, Paul, Daniel, Jon, Alexander, and William; and six great-grandchildren.
His brother, James, preceded him in death.
