PCM squads finish 3rd, 7th at L-S Invite

LYNNVILLE — Runners competing in the 2017 Lynnville-Sully Invitational cross country meet on Sept. 14 saw the tweaks the Hawks provided in the 5K course.

Competitors followed a bit different route winding around Lynnville’s Diamond Trail Golf Course.

PCM’s girls finished third with 89 points as Class 1A No. 7 Pekin claimed the girls’ championship with 49 points. Baxter, ranked No. 10 in 1A, was second with 58 points.

The Mustang boys were seventh with 180 points. Pekin’s boys, who are ranked sixth in 1A, won their second straight Lynnville-Sully Invitational title, holding of Pella Christian, 64 points to 67 points.

Competitors also had to deal with a warm, windy day at Diamond Trail.

The Mustang girls had three run in medal spots.

They were led by junior Kirstin Ives, who was 10th in 22 minutes, 49 seconds. Senior Baylee Smith placed 17th in 23:49 and sophomore Klaire Jungling was 18th in 23:50.

Junior Megan Townley took 26th in 24:51 and junior Payton Schut in 42nd in 26:34 as the scoring runners for PCM.

Senior Ellie Steenhoek was 48th in 27:33, junior Sara Dudley was 111th in 36:40 and junior Maddy Buys was 115th in 37:53.

Southeast Warren’s Elise Emmick, ranked 14th in 1A, took control early on her way to her second consecutive L-S Invitational individual championship.

Emmick ran the course in 20:52 with 2A’s No. 18 Emma Kolb of Pella Christian was second in 21:11.

Pekin’s Colten Glosser, who is ranked 18th in 1A, won the boys’ title with a time of 17:52.

PCM sophomore Jason Stafford led PCM, earning a medal with an 11th-place finish in 19:19. PCM had 18 runners in the boys’ race.

Helping with the team score at the meet were freshman Beau Webb in 22nd at 20:01, senior Brady North in 51st at 21:56, sophomore Jacob Cox in 54th in 22:27 and Cody Courtney in 57th at 22:35.

The Mustang squads hosted the PCM Invitational on Sept. 21 at Monroe.
